Here’s what our clients have to say about working with Young Building Co
Renovation FAQ’s
Why would renovating or extending my home be better than building?
If you love your suburb and the street you’re living in, you don’t have to move.
Make the changes you want to make and build on the original style and charm of your existing home
Relocating is not the easy way out. There is a surprising amount of effort. You have to put your home on the market, find an ideal home that works for your budget and needs, moving costs, agent’s fees and charges, stamp duty, and bank fees and charges etc.
What is the typical process for a renovation?
Please refer to Our Process
How do you consider passive design in a renovation?
Young Building Co recommends focusing on orientation and layout as well as airtight construction and insulation. Thermal bridging, optimized windows, and ventilation (mechanical or with an active occupant) will help keep heat in and out. Balanced ventilation ensures fresh air and controls and achieves superior indoor air quality.
How much do renovations and extensions cost?
You won’t know the exact cost of a project until you’ve made plans and know how large the extension is going to be and what will be included. Renovations are different and unique each time in regards to size, site access, level of finishes, construction method, style of building, location of existing services, matching existing materials etc. The list goes on! Contact us to discuss to your options. We always try to work with our clients to achieve their desired result.
How long will my renovation or extension take?
There are so many factors to consider in regards to how long your project will take. Things to note are: the size and scope of the renovation/extension, the construction method, availability of materials and labour, weather etc. You can expect a renovation to take anywhere from 3 to 12 months, possibly more, depending on what the project requires. As we will be right alongside you for the duration of your project, we can discuss alternative options/solutions as needed.
Do I need council approval for my renovation?
This depends on the type of renovation.
Some things that require council approval include:
- Residential additions and alterations
- Swimming pools and spas.
- Garages, carports and sheds.
- Patios, decking and garden structures.
- Fences and retaining walls.
When working with Young Building Co, we can take of this process for you.
What if I don’t have any plans drawn up?
That is absolutely fine. In fact, it can work in the client’s favour if they don’t have plans. From a construction point of view, having a builder and architect working together can save time and money as we can provide valuable knowledge and insights during the concept stage.
Our Process
01
Consultation & Site Visit
We meet at your property to discuss the goals, potential budget, timely and key design considerations. We recommend creating an inspiration board to convey your ideas. We will give you our suggestions and things to consider.
02
Concept Plans with 3D Model
After our initial consultation, our design consultant will prepare a 3D model of what your “new” home will look like. From there we can make changes as required to ensure you are completely happy.
03
Contract & Working Drawings
Now that we have something to work with, we calculate the cost of construction and present this to you along with the concept plans. You will have a full understanding of the scope of work and costs involved in completing your home.
04
Council Approval & Certification
We finalise your drawings and send them through to relative consultants for engineering, energy rating, building certification and indemnity insurance. Planning approval from the Council is required before a building permit can be issued.
05
Building Works
We receive your Building Permit. Building works can commence and renovations will be underway. Daniel will keep you informed of the progress and be your contact for any questions along the way.
06
Final Handover
When works are complete, Daniel will organise a handover meeting where we will complete a practical completion certificate and enjoy a toast to your new space.
