This project started as a modest 3×1 Californian bungalow with the owners wanting a larger family home. The seamless renovation, extension and addition maintains the original character and works with the lay of the land, maximizing the space available. This home is now a spacious 5×3 with a lounge and study, maintaining 3.3m high ornate plaster ceilings and cornices , and plenty of hidden features.
Initially the clients thought they needed to build another storey to achieve a larger family home. After determining their ideal outcome and budget, we found we could achieve an energy efficient extension using texture-coated NRG Greenboard to match existing walls. Removing internal walls created a larger living/dining and kitchen area, maximizing the outlook of the park. A new kitchen, laundry, bathroom, powder room, master bedroom, ensuite, WIR, alfresco and deck were also constructed.
“Daniel at Young Building Co comes with our highest recommendation. We have never experienced such open communication, professionalism & respect from both Daniel & all of the tradespeople we met along the way. Daniel’s strive for continual perfection-no matter how small the component of the build resulted in us receiving a long-lasting, forever home that is finished with perfect attention to detail no matter where we turn.”
Kristen and Chris
“Young Building Co made a challenging process (exacerbated by a difficult council) as smooth as it could reasonably be. Excellent communication, clarity in solution workarounds and incredible, I mean incredible attention to detail. If you are looking for a detail oriented builder who is focussed on a polished end result, Young Building Co should be your first and only stop.”
Charlie and Kath
“Being time poor and in the middle of COVID, we reached out to Daniel for our house alterations. Daniel met with contractors, installers and suppliers to discuss works. We were informed every step of the way throughout the whole process and any work delays were well explained. Work was excellent, timely and great value for money.”
Leith and Carol
“From the start, Daniel was very clear on what the outcome of the proposed project would achieve and his advice on any changes was invaluable to produce a superior finish to the project. Daniel still managed to overcome the supply of materials and labour and kept us regularly informed on any issues that arose - even despite the building boom. We recommend Daniel to anyone wanting a project big or small to be completed professionally.”
Stephen & Christine
“Daniel recently completed a thorough alteration to my property. I am very pleased with the results and his work ethics and methods. He discussed, pointed out solutions and worked closely with me, subcontractors and suppliers to achieve the best outcome at best value.”

If you love your suburb and the street you're living in, you don't have to move.
Make the changes you want to make and build on the original style and charm of your existing home
Relocating is not the easy way out. There is a surprising amount of effort. You have to put your home on the market, find an ideal home that works for your budget and needs, moving costs, agent's fees and charges, stamp duty, and bank fees and charges etc.

Young Building Co recommends focusing on orientation and layout as well as airtight construction and insulation. Thermal bridging, optimized windows, and ventilation (mechanical or with an active occupant) will help keep heat in and out. Balanced ventilation ensures fresh air and controls and achieves superior indoor air quality.
You won't know the exact cost of a project until you've made plans and know how large the extension is going to be and what will be included. Renovations are different and unique each time in regards to size, site access, level of finishes, construction method, style of building, location of existing services, matching existing materials etc. The list goes on! Contact us to discuss to your options. We always try to work with our clients to achieve their desired result.
There are so many factors to consider in regards to how long your project will take. Things to note are: the size and scope of the renovation/extension, the construction method, availability of materials and labour, weather etc. You can expect a renovation to take anywhere from 3 to 12 months, possibly more, depending on what the project requires. As we will be right alongside you for the duration of your project, we can discuss alternative options/solutions as needed.
This depends on the type of renovation.
Some things that require council approval include:
When working with Young Building Co, we can take of this process for you.
That is absolutely fine. In fact, it can work in the client’s favour if they don’t have plans. From a construction point of view, having a builder and architect working together can save time and money as we can provide valuable knowledge and insights during the concept stage.
We meet at your property to discuss the goals, potential budget, timely and key design considerations. We recommend creating an inspiration board to convey your ideas. We will give you our suggestions and things to consider.
After our initial consultation, our design consultant will prepare a 3D model of what your “new” home will look like. From there we can make changes as required to ensure you are completely happy.
Now that we have something to work with, we calculate the cost of construction and present this to you along with the concept plans. You will have a full understanding of the scope of work and costs involved in completing your home.
We finalise your drawings and send them through to relative consultants for engineering, energy rating, building certification and indemnity insurance. Planning approval from the Council is required before a building permit can be issued.
We receive your Building Permit. Building works can commence and renovations will be underway. Daniel will keep you informed of the progress and be your contact for any questions along the way.
When works are complete, Daniel will organise a handover meeting where we will complete a practical completion certificate and enjoy a toast to your new space.
